English Martyrs Catholic Primary School
English Martyrs Catholic Primary School

A warm welcome to English Martyrs School.

The aim of the Governing Body at English Martyrs is to work with all the staff in helping the children to achieve their full potential in a happy, caring and Christian environment. All the Governors are volunteers from a wide cross section of the community. The majority of Governors are foundation Governors who have to be practicing Catholics themselves.

The Governors work closely with the Headteacher to ensure that the school is constantly seen to bear witness to the faith in every aspect of its work and to promote high educational standards

We do this in five main ways:

  • Monitoring the performance and progress of our children.
  • Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children.
  • Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.
  • Planning ahead so that the performance of our children and our school continues to improve.
  • Ensuring admission arrangements are conducted following the school policy.

To deliver this effectively the Governors are representatives of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority, the Community and the Church. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years.

We meet together at least once a term as a whole Governing Body, and in two other committees: Resources and Performance and Standards. In addition each Governor has an area on the School Improvement Plan that they are responsible for monitoring.

Governors will regularly visit school to help them to monitor progress against targets set. Two governors oversee performance management, and there is a designated governor for SEN provision, Child Protection, Safeguarding and Looked After Children (LAC) and Health and Safety.

Correspondence may be sent to the Chair of Governors care of the school.

The Governors are extremely proud of our high achieving school community in which its academic achievements are impressive but also where children are at the heart of everything the school does.
